Well, we ventured through the vast high desert of Texas along Highway 90 near the Mexico border today. Lots of sagebrush and cactus, on rolling hills. We did see a few cows. Lots of entrances to what looked like huge ranches in the middle of nowhere. We could see the border fence several places, just chain link and lots of different border patrol, pretty but boring! We liked Marathon and it too was really rejuvenated and full of people. The Gage Hotel was blocks long and beautiful. The Pecos River gorge was deep stunning and very green

Dave played chicken with the gas tank, no idea we would see nothing for so long. We had 9 miles to spare when we got to the Kwik Mart from 1950 with one pump and original paint! We filled up and headed on across the road and bridge over Lake Amistad and Recreation Area. We headed to our stop for the night in Del Rio Texas. We are nestled in the trees near a creek. Welcome to Texas, the humidity at 65% and temp at 91, feeling like 101. I'll take 101 in AZ any day over this. I'm melting I'm sure, wish the calories came out in sweat. We have had a bit of thunder and a short sprinkle.

We are looking forward to exploring the little town of Del Rio tomorrow, it has a H.E.B. so you know I'll have to go there! Maybe a ride to the river or the lake who knows. We are playing it by ear.

Yesterday was a short message as we had no service on phones or internet. We went into town for dinner at a Birria Cafe, a place Dave had read about and had some of the best burritos and tacos we've had in a long time. They were huge. It was out of a food truck, so yummy. They were set up in a nice food court attached to the Drive through store! Yep just drive in order food or groceries, hot dogs frozen daquiris! They had all kinds of coffees and teas - sweet and cold of course!

We drove though the town of Alpine and through the campus of Sol Ross, beautiful campus and pretty big. The town is really built around the University. Nice small town at the foothills of the road to Big Bend National Park. We drove south toward the park for a short tide, the whole loop is over 200 miles, and we were not up to that nor did we have the time.

In Alpine we also saw a Air BNB all made of Conex boxes. it was very sharp looking and after researching the insides are as pretty as the outsides. looked pretty busy.

We loved our drive yesterday. Saw some strange things. Made it fun to research and find out about them.

Marfa - a unique place for sure. as you approach Marfa there in the middle of the barren highway is Prada! Dave says in the middle of F'ing nowhere ... 20 miles to town! Just a little replica storefront built to look like the store in NY City. An artist from Ny built it alongside the road in 2005. it has glass in front so you can see the display of shoes and purses from 2005. It is quite a draw for people to stop.

We also had the opportunity to see the viewing stop for the Marfa lights. They appear in the sky above the desert on a regular basis, they have a viewing area with potties and everything. No not UFO's!

Also, just before Marfa we saw a big Tethered Radar Blimp. We were not able to find out much about it, but it sure was huge. Update Mitchell has updated us it is Customs and Border Patrol, old technology. (Mitchell is my Border Patrol Kiddo)

Marfa is a well know art town, galleries and art along the main street. a really beautiful downtown. on the outskirts there is a sculpture ground newly placed in 2023. the big piece is the container Conex sculpture. Man lounging as it is called.

Monday and Tuesday were our longest days of the trip, by design. we traveled over 350 miles each day. today just under 200. the rest of the trip should be a slower pace. we will be visiting friends along the way. we have places we want to visit. its going to be so much fun!
