We arrived Tuesday afternoon. It was warm and nice. We got set up at the campground. Dave took a nap, still n not feeling 💯. I worked on a Christmas project on the computer.
We got up Wendsday and hit the sites. We drove to the lookout on 30 over the Snake River. Just stunning. So beautiful. I was pretty proud of myself, I walked down the steep path to the fenced overlook. Dave of course was with me. Just had to trust myself to do it! Been 2 years since my legs were able to handle that. Not bad for 6 weeks after surgery.
We then went to the state park, the Shoshone Falls and lake Dierks. The whole road down into the park had small to medium waterfalls just coming out of the rock.
Most are fed by natural springs. So beautiful. We drove the electric power plant road on the other side. Saw some beautiful homes, Dave drive past the turn around here sign private property. We were greater around the corner with a rifle in hand and what are you doing here. needless to say we turned around.
The lake sits above the river on a
plateau. They have used a floating dock to create a swimming area, complete with a Sandy Beach and diving board. Oh and fish! They have made it a wonderful family spot.
We then drove to Shoshone falls. I know now why they are called the Nigeria of the West. Breath taking. Even with the water at a lower level it was just truly amazing. This is due to the season. It fluctuates. There is an 18 mile trail along the rim. We did not go but can only imagine the views are spectacular!
We spent quit a bit of time walking and driving to see all we could.
We even saw Fred the Mountain goat coming and going. He's kind of a show off! Way up on a cliff! The views along the rim were spectacular. Being a Colorado and AZ girl it's amazing how much water there is!
We , drove through lots a fields of Hay and Potatoes. The snake River valley is the prime area for taters. They are still in field, so no fresh taters at this point.
We headed to Perrin Bridge on the North side of town. It's huge over the gorge. We walked on the scenic overlook. I did all flights of stairs like I knew what I was doing. The muscle memory is slowly returning!
What an amazing site. We watched about 8 wind surfers jump from the bridge. They just climb over the railing and free fall with their Parachute. Neat to watch, we both said no way are we even thinking about that. They have a good half a mile to hike back to a car to return to the top to go again.
We headed to the visitor center on the other side of the bridge. We had read there was going to a 911 remembrance gathering and flag hanging. Glad we checked it out early. It was being set up. We could tell the crowd was going to be large. Beautiful over look and we could see what was going to happen.
We were going to try to go back. We had to run to town about:4:30 pm to the bank, as we left the wind and smoke was getting bad, we decided home was the best place to. We check the news and FB posts. I'll send pics.
We had lunch at Idaho Joes yummy.
The wind was crazy and it blowing in smoke from fires in other states. We opted to stay home! Watched a cute movie and had pot pie.
This morning we drove back to the visitors center. So glad we did. Seeing that flag fly above that deep gorge is breathtaking. It's a good reminder of those we lost and how our world as we knew it changed.
We went down town to the cheese Market. They have a factory near here And make cheeses for specialty labels. We tasted a few and bout some. It was rich and creamy. We bought 10 pounds for $29! We will be sharing along the way.
The Chibioni yogurt plant is right down the street from us. They have yours but we did not have on long pants and closed toe shoes. Dave was not eager to see it. He does eat it every day!
It is the largest yogurt plant in the world.
We both have had x great time here in Twins Falls. Beautiful small town, nice people and easy to get around.
Blessings.
