Chassaahowitzka River, Homosassa FL
That is where we are! Beautiful treed campground.
There are natural springd here, it is a very popular paddle boat and kayak area. Our neighbors offered us kayaks. Deciding we didn't want to star on AFV we passed.
Yesterday we ventured to St George's Island. Laid back small community, one side has some modest and older beach houses, we saw new builds but again modest. We were both surprised by the number of houses that had pools. Maybe 60 percent. We saw the new restored light house. They had to move it more central place as it had been damaged many times. There is a small group of restaurants and shops. The south end of the Island is a State park and nature preserve. We were unsure we wanted to pay to go see. The Ranger at the guard shack loved Poppy, the car and her paint job. Chatted away with us and told us he was letting us drive through on him!
We are both really glad that we did. It was untouched land and the dunes of sands, the natural grasses and trees were so beautiful. The landscape changed many times. They had built very nice pavilions and picnic site near a few beaches. The East side of the island was swampy and small bodies of water. Lots of fisherman. We drove through the campground. It was awesome. If we make it back here it is definitely on the list to stay a few days.
We saw a Piggly Wiggly express over there too. You know it's the small things that make us smile.
Dave realized that the lights he thought were on the island, we're just the dock lights. Dang old people. He was looking where the park was, nope no lights!
We drove around the small town of Carrabelle, and yes saw the worlds Smallest Police Station. They even have a bench and a parking space.
They have a very nice memorial park for the military. All branches are recognized. Camp Gordon Johnston was there during WWII. And they used Dog Island for training.
Small fish shops and a few restaurants and bars. We always know we've arrived if there is a Dollar General. I know we have seen 200+. It's like playing slug bug to see who can blurt it out first!
They had a country club a little bit down the road, it said Pickle Ball and Golf Club on the huge sign. Made me laugh.
We spent time at the beach yesterday. The wind was blowing so we had a nice breeze to cool off the dripping humidity! Still really didn't find any shells. But my feet were in the sand and the sunshine felt great.
We really liked the Ho Hum RV park. Denise and her office partner were the best. So friendly. They stopped by several times a day. We got to know them a bit. Small park, huge happy place, and yes we will go back!
Dave had to have the shirt. Picture attached .
Dave grilled chicken and cooked chicken pasta for us outside. By this time the breeze was gone and we had annoying gnats. Had to finish eating inside. We got things put away so we could depart on our next adventure. And watched only our second Hallmark movie of the trip.
We brought our Wifi with us. We have used it some but not like we thought we would.
We continued on our scenic route 98 down the coast. The landscape changed as we headed more inland. Chicken farms, pastures with cows. Then we started to see groves of fruit trees. It was a nice scenic change. We had the road to ourselves most of the way. We did not see much road kill today, just a few armadillos.
We eventually ended back by the shore. We went over so many rivers and started to see canals. The vegetation was thick and green.
We also saw many pine forest areas. Some harvested and new trees growing. Being a Colorado girl, to see these very tall straight trees is very different. We did see a huge lumber mill as well.
This area is known for the manatees. They are in the rivers here.
We took a nice walk this evening before dinner. You can certainly tell it is buggy here. The screen pop up tents are abundant. Some are pretty cool. It was nice to "shop" the toys and camp gear all set up. One guy had a big deep fryer, cat fish and hush puppies he said. Didn't tell us to come back!
Nice to be in the trees and shade.
We went over 2500 miles today. Coming to the end of week three tomorrow. It has flown by. And yes we still love each other!
I talked about my Damp Rid bags. Tomorrow will be a week. It's almost full. Definitely give you a good picture of humidity. Will last up to 60 days, where in Arizona???
We just had leftovers tonight. Still yummy. And of course the game of Skipbo came out. I have to gloat, I beat Dave all three games. He was not so happy 😊. He plays to win, the cards were not in his favor tonight.
Another great day on this wonderful adventure.
Thanks to all who check in with us to make sure we are safe and well.
We head south tomorrow.
The I internet was not my friend last night. I thought I lost this whole post. We are back on a interstate. Only 300 miles of the 2500 had been interstate.
Pray for good weather the next couple days as we want to be on the ocean and in the Everglades.

Sounds and looks wonderful! Enjoy the next stop and please be careful when in the Everglads!
What an epic adventure you are enjoying!!!
