Friday May 24th

We didn't post yesterday. Had a great lazy day. Slept in and just laid low. It was so hot and humid. We did venture out to H.E.B. we had fun checking it out and bought a few things we needed and some we didn't. We bought some very yummy tamales. And great Texas watermelon. We had a nice dinner grilled chicken, fresh corn and ranch beans. Dave got to use his new grill again and is learning all the tricks.

We left our campground in Del Rio, we met the owner and she was so thrilled to have us there she told us we could stay as long as we wanted and it was free. What a sweet surprise. Thank you Janet!.

Today we had a beautiful drive through the southern Hill county....over 100 miles of flower lined roads. Stunning and breathtaking. It was overcast so we enjoyed some relief from the sun.

We took the back roads and enjoyed the small towns. We had to ford the river twice on regular US highway. We never saw the intersection that we were supposed to go on. We were blessed with some beautiful cow country instead. We did get another border patrol checkpoint!

We also saw a Bald Eagle today. Gift from God.

It was noticable how patriotic it is in Texas. We see American and Texas flags at the entrance to all the ranches and proudly flown on most houses. Not because it's a holiday but because they are proud to be Americans! We did see the

Court Houses in many of the small towns decorated for Memorial Day.

We arrived at my cousin's lake house early afternoon and had a great visit. We are right on the edge of LBJ lake in Sunset Beach, Texas. We were greeted by deer, yep they just walked right next to us like hey your here. Later this evening we were able to feed them watermelon 🍉 rinds right from our hands.

We were treated to a wonderful brisket dinner, Texas style complete with fresh tortillas and all the fixings.

We met my cousin Mary's family and sure enjoyed our evening. The lake house is beautiful and we look forward to getting some sun and maybe even swimming tomorrow.
