Still in the Colorado Springs area. We have had rain and wind daily. Colorado spring!
Georgia is in heaven! Her siblings and parents are here. Those crazy dogs run the property, play non-stop, and all faces to the window when someone is outside! She has learned to sleep in til 8, pure exhaustion. Nice for us too.
We've had a few late night movies. Last night was our first Skipbo, just saying I won three of 5. It's fun to listen to the rain in the trailer, the wind not so much. A couple nights it was very gusty and we felt the rocking. The thunder and lightning shows have been great.
Last Friday Kristina, Alex and I made a trip to Who Gives a Scrap, a resale shop for used craft items.
Needless to say I did not walk away empty Handed.
Tons of great things.
Friday Eve was Alex's boyfriend's birthday, his parents had is over for dinner. Yummy Tacos! And amazing company.Happy Birthday Isaiah!
Saturday found us home, doing some yard work and crafts. We had a great time doing junk journals. Dave enjoyed the sun and pulled weeds in the flower bed close to our camper.
All the kids were around for dinner and we made French bread pizza.
Sunday was cold and windy, Dave bundled up and read a book, we continued crafting. We did cook yummy dinner, pork loin and roasted veggies.
I was planning on going to Montana for the weekend with my nieces. However the last incision on my leg has failed to heal. I started antibiotics again, had wound care and was told to keep my feet up. So no long drives. Sorry to miss Morgan's baby shower. The 12 hour drive would have been hard.
We played Bunco with Colorado Friends that afternoon. Nice to see faces I missed.
Tuesday guess what rain and foggy..
Girls went shopping. I was a good girl and spent less than $50. Not bad for 4 stores. We came home and made chicken salad for dinner. Movie night for Dave and me.
Dave and I ventured out with Georgia to go see a few things.
We started with the Broadmoor, a 5 star hotel here in CS. Well known elegant hotel. The grounds were lush and green and oh so beautiful.
We dove up to Cheyenne Mountain zoo, we did not stay it was crazy busy and lots of hilly walking. We wondered through the beautiful houses behind the Broadmoor. Headed through Old Colorado City and Manitou. Both old tourist towns and still a tourist destination.
Garden of the Gods was our next stop. We did the drive through the park and saw the beauty. Dave has not been to balanced rock, only car pictures as it was a complete zoo.
We headed north to Glen Erye Castle. Tucked back in the canyon surrounded by emaculate gardens and lawn. Built by Spencer Penrose for his wife who was from England and home sick. He was the president of the railroad and helped Colorado Springs settle. It is now the headquarters for the Navigators , a Christian ministry. They hold retreats there, you can stay in the castle, and they have several lodges with meeting rooms and accommodations. One of my favorite places.
They even serve high tea. We saw wild Turkeys, no deer or mountain Goats this time.
We headed east and drove through the UCCS campus. It is University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. It has grown so much. Can't believe the big school it has become.
Of course we had to stop at Rizuto's a family owned local ice cream spot. A family favorite. Dave got the small cone....2.25. they serve a Medium, you could feed 3-4 people. They did the large and it won them the Guinness Book of World Records for tallest Soft serve. Yummy as always.
Georgia thought she should have some, but I'm mean and said no!
Thursday we headed to Canyon City to go to the Royal Gorge. It has been over 25 years since I was there. Lots has changed and the rebuild after the fire is nice. We rode the Gondola across and walked back. What a trek. It was a steep long climb down to the bridge. I did it! Had to rest a few times with this crazy leg. They have so many new attractions, bungee across the canyon, a huge swing that swings you out over the canyon, Merry go Round, show's etc. The sway of the worlds tallest and longest wood suspension bridge was enough for us. The sun held out and had great weather.
On our way home we stopped at the Gold mine rock shop. One of the best rock shops in the world. Alex loves rocks and crystals.
Next door we checked out the Vintage Camper museum and campground. They have all kinds of old campers restored you can rent or bring your own. Felt like it was right out the 50's
We Drove skyline Rd. ,
7 mile one way road over a hog back ridge. Just wide enough at the top for one lane, the views to the mountains are spectacular, and in the other side down into Canyon City. Not for the faint of heart. Trying day for those of us who are not found of heights but we all did it!
We dove back up highway 115, again beautiful however we hit torrential rain and it had hailed prior to us getting there. It looked like snow on the road and definitely was piled so high the road was like a river. Kristina got us home safe and before the big rain hit us at home
Great day with great family.
We the old people came in for a Nap!
